Plan to build homes and shops wins approval
Thursday, 21st February 2002.
A revised scheme to replace a derelict pub and a block of shops and flats with news shops and homes has been approved by planners.
The former Standard pub at Haverhill has been demolished after being closed for almost four years. The nearby Blair Parade shops were built in the 1960s and are now beyond economical repair.
St Edmundsbury planners have agreed to a plan for two shops, four flats, one house, and four bungalows on the site. Planning consent was granted last year for a scheme including flats and bungalows.
The Planning Committee was told this scheme had been completely redesigned as financial restraints meant development costs had to be reduced.
One of the bungalows will be designed with wheelchair access and the work will be done in phases, with the new shops built before the old ones are demolished.
