Thursday, 9th November 2000.
YOUNG air and army cadets will pay tribute to 42 of the town's war veterans during the Remembrance Day ceremony at Haverhill on Sunday.
For the first time this year the ATC and army cadets, aged 12 to 16 years will place crosses on each of the 42 veterans graves in the cemetery.
It is hoped that the tribute from likely serviceman of the future will be a regular event,
The war memorial has also be renovated by the War Office at the request of the Haverhill Royal British Legion branch and missing names of four First World War victims have been added.
The 78-year-old great nephew of one of these has been traced, but is too ill to travel and may be represented by his sons.
The parade will assemble at the Lower Downs Slades car park in Haverhill at 2pm on Sunday and move off to the cemetery at around 2.15pm. Mayors of Haverhill and St Edmundsbury will lay wreaths on the war memorial, before the parade moves on to St Mary's Church at 3.15pm.
Colchester Cubs Band will lead the parade.
Brain Thomas, of the British Legion, said between 150 and 200 people were expected and anyone else who wanted to join in was welcome.
The two minutes silence will also be observed in front of St Mary's Church at 11am on Saturday, November 11.
