World premiere of new play at arts centre
Thursday, 13th May 2010.
Haverhill sees the world premiere of a new play tonight (Thursday) at the Arts Centre.
The town's Centre Stage Company present three one-act plays under the billing of Three Tales Of Mystery And Imagination.
One is a familiar spine-chiller, The Monkey's Paw, given an unexpected new look, and one is a hilarious spoof of a Victorian melodrama, The Cobbler's Ball.
The third is a new play written by a long-time actor and director within the group, David Hart.
Entitled To All Intents And Purposes, the play is described as a black comedy which explores themes of surveillance, political correctness and popular justice.
It is directed by Chris Hart and its cast of five - Dan Samuels, Steve Powter, Becca Neal, Emily Mizen and Denise Clayden - have worked on the script in rehearsal with director and writer.
The Monkey's Paw, directed by Steve Powter, is a tale about a frightening oriental talisman which grants the owner three wishes, but not in the way they want. It is being staged in the form of a recording session from the heyday of radio drama.
The Cobbler's Ball, directed by Lorraine Taylor, takes the familar tale of innocence corrupted and switches the genders for a side-splitting conclusion to the evening.
The plays can be seen each evening from tonight until Saturday at 7.30pm, at tickets at £8 (£7 concessions) are available from the Arts Centre box office on 01440 714140 or on the door.
