Worker catches a glimpse of burglars

Wednesday, 3rd February 2010.

As the string of burglaries across the area continues, a member of staff at a warehouse in Homefield Road, Haverhill, yesterday caught a glimpse of some of the people who may be responsible.

The worker disturbed two men who had broken into an office by forcing a window, between 12.15am and 12.30am.

The two men pushed past the worker and left through the window, having stolen nothing.

The first man is described as white, around 20, around 5ft 6in tall, of slim build with a slightly tanned complexion and was wearing a white hooded, spotted jacket.

The second man is described as white, in his early 20s, around 5ft 8in tall, of slim build and was wearing a black hooded jacket.

Various premises on Haverhill's industrial estate have been targeted by burglars recently, mostly for copper wiring or other metal.

Police are linking yesterday's event with another in Homefield Road between January 25 and 29, when the lock of a shed was forced and copper wiring stolen.

Suffolk police recently issued a warning across the county about metal thieves because of the current high price of scrap metals.

But the Haverhill area has also seen an increase house burglaries in villages during the day and thefts from vehicles at night, with valuables left in cars one of the targets, along with tools left in vans.
