Work could start soon on developing Hamlet Croft
Wednesday, 22nd June 2011.
Work is likely to start on developing Hamlet Croft, the forner Haverhill Rovers football ground, early next year.
The land is owned by St Edmundsbury Borough Council and was leased to the football club, which no longer has need of it now that its new football facility in Chalkstone Way, known as the New Croft, has been up and running for a season
The council has now marketed the old ground as a residential site. Hamlet Croft is an allocated site in the Local Plan for 100 new houses.
A report to next week's full council meeting says interest in the site from house-builders has been high, and the council has been able to select Bloor Homes, who will soon be applying for planning permission.
This will be for a development that will include around 30 affordable homes.
Subject to obtaining planning permission, the report says, work will start on site in early 2012.
