Woman tracks family history
By John Downing on Thursday, 8th August 2002.
AN interest in family history has enabled a Cheshire woman now living in Haverhill to trace her family’s roots.
Judith Palmer moved to the county 22 years ago and has been enrolling on family history courses at the Haverhill Local Learning Centre of West Suffolk College.
Her interest was sparked by a document showing one of her great-great-grandfathers was on the ship
that laid the transatlantic telephone phone cable.
She said: “I never got anywhere with that original query, but I found that one of my great-great-grandmothers was born in Chelmondiston, in Suffolk. I managed to trace her family through the Bury St Edmunds records office.”
Now she plans to branch out from just using pen and paper in her
research and explore the wealth of genealogical information available on the internet.
To get up and running she is
planning to take a 19-week
Computer Literacy and Information
Technology course offered by West
Suffolk College.
Anyone who is interested in the leisure and learning courses starting in September at the Haverhill Local Learning Centre can call (01284) 716333 for a brochure.
