Woman dies after tragic bedroom window fall
By Martin Chapman on Friday, 30th November 2001.
THE BEREAVED parents of Haverhill woman, Emma Mayes believe she may have been taking curtains down when she fell from her bedroom to a tragic death.
Emma Mayes, who was 25, was seriously injured when she fell from her bedroom window, in Horsham Close, Haverhill. She died later that day at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge.
Craig Fitzpatrick, her partner of ten years was downstairs when the tragedy occurred, and found her lying unconscious on the ground.
It is unknown what she was doing before she fell, but speaking earlier this week her parents, John and Wendy believe she may have been taking a pair of curtains down.
Ambulance crews were called to the scene but despite their best efforts she died after being taken to hospital. Emma had suffered serious injuries after landing on her back in the fall.
Emma, who was Haverhill through and through attended Castle Manor Upper School and had worked for nine years as an office administrator for International Fragrances and Flavours (IFF)
Yesterday Mr and Mrs Mayes of Greenwood Close, Haverhill, spoke about their fun loving daughter and the support they had received from the friends and family.
Wendy, her mother said: “She was happy and fun-loving, without a care in the world.”
“She had been at IFF since school and she loved her job and the people there. Everyone is totally shocked.”
“The cards and phone calls we have received have really helped to bring it out.”
Emma, who was one of two children leaves two nephews and a niece.
Her funeral was took place today, at West Suffolk Crematorium.
An inquest into her death is due to take place to determine how Emma died; her parents however, believe the cause of the fall may never be known.
