Witnesses sought to attempted robbery
Friday, 23rd August 2013.
Police are appealing for information and asking for a witness to come forward after an attempted robbery beside the railway walk.
It happened around 11pm on Tuesday when the victim, a 17-year-old boy, was crossing the footbridge behind the Waters Edge flats on Withersfield Road. He was approached by two men.
As they passed each other, one of them asked the victim if he had a lighter and as the victim turned round the other man punched him in the face.
The two then pushed the victim to the ground and began to kick him, before searching his pockets. Another man then shouted at the offenders and they fled, running off in the direction of Tesco.
Police officers are keen to speak to the man who helped the victim. He is described as a white, aged around 30 years of age, 6ft tall, of a large muscular build, with short spiky hair and tattoos on his right shoulder.
They would also like to speak with two men who are believed to have been working on the faulty street lights along the footpath, as they may be able to assist with enquiries.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Bury St Edmunds Priority Crime Team on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
