Wet weather keeps golfers in the clubhouse
Tuesday, 8th December 2009.
Unfortunately the recent spell of wet weather hampered last week’s fixtures for Haverhill golfers.
The Winter Alliance which was due to be played at Seckford Golf Club on Wednesday, December 2,had to be cancelled as the course was waterlogged, and at Haverhill Golf Club the last major tournament of the year, the Asco Cup, due to be played on December 6, had to be cancelled once again and is now rescheduled for Sunday, January 3.
Fortunately the Haverhill ladies managed to play their midweek December Medal. It was a close result with Sue Carr just winning on countback 87-14-73 from second-placed Jackie Condon 95-22-73 and Sarah Field finishing in thirrd place 100-25-75.
The Captain Pro Challenge play-offs were held at Bishops Stortford on Thursday, December 3, and after a bit of a showery start, conditions improved considerably and a good day was had by all 12 competitors.
The format was fourball better ball, stableford and the winners with 39pts were Kim Ward and Peter McLennan. In second place were Edward Fairhead and Duncan Galloway with 37pts on countback from third-placed Dennis Harkness and Tom Marsh, also with 37pts.
