We’ll keep on trying

Haverhill return to action in the Jewson League this weekend with a game against King’s Lynn reserves hoping to earn three points to keep pressure on the top two.

Rovers currently lie in the fourth in Division One, three points adrift of second-placed Histon reserves and a further nine behind Norwich United.

They will be aiming for the win against King’s Lynn reserves to set themselves up for their last two games which are against Cambridge City reserves at homes and then Downham town away.

Paul Goodman;s side have not played since losing the Suffolk Senior cup final to Kirkley 4-3 after extra time, and Goodman said: “We went through the video of the final and the players are okay and in good spirits.

“We probably still played better than them (Kirkley) on the day and did enough to win.

“It makes the players more determined and they want to get back to the final again.”

In their return to league action after a two week break they will be looking to pick up from where they left off, which was a 5- 4 win at home to Brightlingsea.

Goodman said: “We have said all we can do is keep winning and get as high as we can. The pressure is off us now as I think both of them (Norwich United and Histon Reserves) have gone up.

“It is important that the lads keep concentrating for that the last three games, We will just keep trying to win our games and see what happens.

Looking ahead to Saturdays match and opponents Kings Lynn reserves, Goodman said: “They are a good side, particularly at home. They are lively and move the ball around well and we will have our work cut out.”

Goodman is expecting to have a fully fit squad from which t chose the match which means that the leagues top-scorer Paul Jenkin will probably be partnered upfront by Mark Brandt, a formidable duo.
