Warning after village burglaries
Monday, 9th November 2009.
Police have issued a warning to people in the Haverhill area to keep their homes secure after burglaries in Little Wratting and Great Wratting on Friday night.
Between 12.45pm and 9.55pm, thieves broke into a house in Haverhill Road in Little Wratting. Attempts were made to force a door and a window
before they broke in by forcing a second window. A ring was stolen.
At around 7.30pm a house at Coronation Cottages in Great Wratting was entered and a wallet was stolen.
Also around 7.30pm, two men called at a second house at Coronation Cottages and told the occupants they needed to turn the water on and off because there was something in the water which could make them ill.
One of the men came into the house through the back door and started filling a bucket with water in the kitchen. When the occupants said they were going to make a phone call the man left.
The occupants then found the house had been searched and cash had been stolen.
The man who entered the house is described as white, in his 20s, of stocky build, 5ft 6in tall and was wearing a dark coloured shiny hat with a flat peak, dark blue overalls and dark gloves.
The second man is described as white, in his 20s, of slim build, 6ft 1in tall and was wearing a dark coloured shiny hat with a flat
peak, dark blue overalls and dark gloves.
Police would like to hear from anyone who may have been in Little or Great Wratting on Friday evening and may have noticed any suspicious people or vehicles in the area.
Calls should be made to DS Mark Robinson at Bury CID on 01284 774100 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Poloice are urging people to keep their homes secure at all times. If a suspicious person calls at your house and you are concerned they are not genuine, do not let them in and call police.
