Warning after distraction thefts by woman
Friday, 28th March 2014.
Police are reminding residents to be vigilant after linking two crimes where offenders distracted victims by telling them they had dropped money, before stealing their bank card.
The first incident occurred at around 11am yesterday in the car park of the Aldi store in Lordscroft Lane.
A male victim left the store and got into his car at which point a woman got into the passenger’s seat and told the man he had dropped a £5 note.
The man checked his wallet and at some point the woman was able to remove a bank card, which was used to remove money from his account.
The woman is described as aged in her mid-late thirties, around 5ft 6ins tall, with long dark hair tied back and wearing a jumper and trousers. She also spoke with a foreign accent.
The second incident occurred at around 2:40pm yesterday in the car park at the rear of Wilkinson's store in Mildenhall.
The male victim left the store with his wife and went to their car where they were approached by a man and woman who state he has dropped a £5 note.
During a conversation between the group the female offender managed to get hold of the victim’s wallet and removed two bank cards, which were also used a short time later to remove money from his account.
The woman is described as of Southern European appearance, of slim build, with long brown hair tied up in a bun, wearing a dark long sleeved jacket and light brown skinny trousers and light coloured pumps.
The woman is described as taller than the man, who is described as having short dark hair and wearing a dark jacket and dark jeans.
Police are asking anyone with information in relation to these incidents to contact Suffolk Police on 101 quoting HH/14/574 for the Haverhill crime or MH/14/506 for the Mildenhall one. Alternatively Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111.
