Volunteers wanted for open-door event
Thursday, 7th June 2001.
PEOPLE with interesting or unusual homes in the Haverhill area are being asked to open their doors to the public.
St Edmundsbury Borough Council is holding its annual Heritage Open Days between September 7 and 10 and is hoping even more people will take part this year.
The open days provide the chance for the public to see inside around 2,000 historic or unusual buildings free of charge.
A council spokeswoman said: "The buildings do not have to be old, just interesting.
"Or maybe there's one part of your building that could be of interest to visitors.
"Perhaps it is because it houses your model railway that you're especially proud of, or a collection of curiosities that people could admire, or maybe an unusual feature in your garden."
Staff at the council are willing to help organise the opening for the owner of the property.
They will also give advice if you are not quite sure if your attraction would be attractive enough.
The Heritage Open Days are co-ordinated by the Civic Trust and a wide range of events, other than the openings, are held over the weekend.
A council spokeswoman said: "Anything of interest will be considered: guided tours, lectures, competitive events, talks.
"Heritage Open Days are a celebration of regional and local distinctiveness."
