VIP visitor at school
Thursday, 9th December 1999.
CHINESE ambassador Ma Zhengang visited Haverhill, where he found himself back in the classroom with pupils at Clements Primary School.
MP Richard Spring took the ambassador along to the Haverhill school during an official visit to his West Suffolk constituency.
Mr Spring said he had been so impressed by previous visits to the school, which gained an excellent OFSTED report, that he wanted the ambassador to see it.
Mr Spring, who met the ambassador during a visit to China in September, described the school as "one of the best success stories in East Anglia".
Younger pupils sang two Christmas songs for the ambassador and he then saw older pupils at work in the classroom.
