Vandals at work again at football project site

Wednesday, 17th March 2010.

Police in Haverhill are asking for help in tracking down a large group of youths who caused damage at the football project construction site in Chalkstone Way last night.

A group of ten, aged around 17, damaged fencing around the building site. One male was wearing a white top, another wore a red top and the rest were wearing dark tops.

Anyone who can help should call PC Cheryl Claydon at Haverhill Police on 01284 774100 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

The project, which is costing nearly £2m, will provide a new stadium for Haverhill Rovers, with numerous associated pitches to accommodate a variety of youth, boys, girls and ladies football teams.

In its early stages of construction, the site experienced a sgnificant amount of vandalism so that security had to be employed and it eventually became a priority for Haverhill police's Safer Neighbourhood Team, but the problem had largely been solved more recently and the priority was closed.
