Under-age alcohol purchase 'sting' catches two
Monday, 13th January 2014.
Two more premises have been caught selling alcohol to under-age purchasers in another sting in Haverhill.
In December police and trading standards officers carried out a test purchase operation at five stores and were able to make a purchase in three.
The individual staff member who served the purchaser was given a £90 fied penalty notice and the store licence-holders were warned.
Another operation was held last week, including the three offending stores, but all three passed the test staisfactorily.
However, a further two new stores approached failed, and again the individual members of staff have been fined, and the licence-holders warned.
Police say they are not releasing the names of the stores oncerned.
Police cadets are used to enter the shops and attempt the purchases, being under 18.
