Two new faces at the town council

Thursday, 8th August 2002.

TWO new councillors have been elected to serve on Haverhill Town Council.
The Haverhill Representative Alliance candidate Michael Graham will be the new councillor for the St Mary’s and Helions ward.
Mr Graham, of Quendon Place, collected 164 votes and defeated the only other candidate, Labour’s Susan Davies.
She received 78 votes and failed to hold the seat vacated by outgoing Labour councillor Len Hancock. The turnout was just under 18 per cent.
Carole Pinker retained the Clements ward seat for the Labour Party. She polled 182 votes and defeated the Haverhill Representative Alliance’s Angela Woodley, who had 152 votes.
Independent candidate Gordon Cox received 14 votes and almost 13 per cent of the electorate cast their ballots.
The incoming councillor, from Bures Court, replaces Eric Bowman.
The results leave Labour with 14 town councillors and the two remaining members are from the Haverhill Representative Alliance.
