TV Cameras at Haverhill's Gurteens
Wednesday, 18th October 2006.
Television viewers joined broadcaster Pam Rhodes on a visit to the Gurteen's factory in Haverhill and got a glimpse of an earlier broadcast made 26 years ago.
The textile company appeared in the 'Country Days' programme on Anglia television. It featured managing director Christopher Gurteen showing his museum of memorabilia from the factory's history and also included a short clip from the 'Bygones' programme which was made in 1980 and presented by Dick Joyce.
Featured in both programmes was 90-year-old, Harold Sizer, who worked at Gurteen's for many years.
The Gurteen textile mill was established in Haverhill more than 200 years ago and was the town's main employer for much of that time. The Gurteen family provided many of the town's public buildings, including the Town Hall and the Old Independent Church.
