Town gears up for its biggest night of the year
Tuesday, 4th December 2012.
It's the big night of the year for Haverhill onj FRiday, with late night shopping and fireworks.
Haverhill Town Council has again organised the Family Christmas Night to get the season off to a cracking start, with late night shopping, charity stalls, rides and street entertainment.
Late night shopping on Friday between 5pm and 8pm will be a chance to get some Christmas shopping done, buy some gifts not available in the shops at the craft fair held at the Arts Centre, support local charities and organisations, have fun on the fairground rides and be entertained by an array of Christmas-themed street acts.
This year there will be some elves whizzing around playing all the best Christmas tunes; there’s cool runnings to be had with Cheesy Rider, an all action 1960s comedy cocktail bar offering a heady mix of skilful cocktail shaking and lots of fairy lights, tinsel and fun surprises; some charming Christmas Belles that will put a smile on every face; and not to forget some rather brassy pantomime dames who have been let loose on the street in all their gaudy glamour and fantastic finery.
The late night shopping will be followed at 8.15pm by what perhaps could be described as the biggest night in the Haverhill calendar, the free Christmas Fireworks Display.
Taking place on the Recreation Ground, this year the soundtrack will remember the big events of the last 12 months including the Olympics, the Jubilee, the most popular film of the year, and one of the most viewed clips on Youtube, ever - among others.
As ever the fireworks promise to be a spectacular and gasp-worthy finale to Family Christmas Night.
The following day will see free ice-skating from 10am to 4pm and the chance to meet some live reindeer from 10am to 1pm, both on the market square. You can write a letter to Father Christmas (paper, pens and colouring pencils will be provided) and the reindeer will make sure it is delivered to the North Pole in time for Christmas Eve.
For more information on these events or to find out what else is going on in the town in December, including carol services at St Mary’s Church and the Old Independent Church, call Haverhill Arts Centre box office on 01440 714140 and ask for the Winter In Haverhill brochure.
