Top scoring in golf club's first junior medal

There were some great scores in the first of the junior medal events, recently introduced at Haverhill Golf Club, which was played on Sunday, October 18.
Mitchell Davis clinched victory with a fabulous 89-28-61. In second place was Liam Merritt with 88-26-62 and third Jack Warwick with 74-6-68 (lowest gross). As a result both Mitchell and Liam have both had their handicaps reduced by three shots.
Half term week saw a series of competitions arranged for the juniors section. On Tuesday, October 27, the Autumn Shield was played.
Winning, with an incredible score of nett 58, was Ellis Brown, who shot a gross 85 playing off a handicap of 27. His handicap has now been cut to 22, and Haverhill Golf Club would like to congratulate Ellis on his remarkable achievement.
Second place went to Liam Merritt, with a round of 89-24-65, who has now been cut to 22, and Harvey Bavester finished in third place with 77-10-67 (lowest gross).
The juniors played a match against the Ladies Section on Wednesday, October 28, which the Juniors won 3½-½. On the following day, they played a match against the seniors section, where the juniors continued their winning ways with an impressive victory, 7½-2½.
Newton Green’s Junior Open was played on Monday, October 26, where three of Haverhill’s Juniors competed. Chris Vince took part in the medal event and shot a gross 79 playing off a handicap of 5.
Lewis Whiting played in the Junior Open Stableford Event and finished with a score of 37pts. Jake Graves-Whiting, who has just recently started playing competitive golf, managed to score a very commendable 33pts off a handicap of 19.
On Tuesday, October 27, Chris Vince partnered Josh Cottrell of Ipswich Golf Club to play in the SGU Junior Foursomes at Felixstowe Ferry Golf Club. They finished in third place with a gross score of 77.
The IFF Challenge was played on Wednesday, October 28, and the results were as follows. Division One: 1 Jim Walker 74-10-64, 2 David Pipe 71-6-65, 3 Paul Gardiner 78-8-70.
Division Two: 1 David Roope 84-17-67, 2 Mark Firman 82-14-68 and 3 John Stokes 86-17-69. Division Three: 1 Lewis Whiting 90-23-67, 2 Martin Mansfield 90-21-69, 3 Duncan Watson 97-26-71.
On Saturday, October 31, the Rehab Cup was played, a stableford event for men, ladies and juniors. The winner with a score of 40pts was Michael Goldsmith. In second place was Andy Softley with 36pts on count back from Dave Nicholas in third with 36pts.
