Time for tenants to get snapping in their gardens
Thursday, 4th August 2011.
Tenants of Haverhill's biggest housing provider Havebury are being urged to capture the beauty in their gardens in a photography competition held by the partnership.
The Suffolk affordable housing provider has launched the In My Garden contest to showcase the creative skills of tenants, plus highlight the variety of flora and fauna in their neighbourhoods.
Havebury chief executive Karen Mayhew explained: “The photos can be of anything, from insects and birds to spectacular garden creations. We would particularly love to see what kind of wildlife can be found in gardens in and around the St Edmundsbury area, and already our residents are getting clicking and rising to the challenge.”
The winning image will be used on the front cover of this year’s Havebury Annual Report, with runner-up photographs used in other publicity material. There are two categories – one for those aged 18 and under and the other for residents aged 19 and above.
The first prize in each category is £100 to spend on either photographic or gardening equipment, with two runner-up prizes of £50 in each category.
The entries will be judged by Karen Mayhew, Sandy Norris, chair of the tenants’ forum and Havebury photographer Ben Palmer, with the winners announced at Havebury’s residents’ day on Wednesday, September 14, at Stanton Village Hall.
Mrs Mayhew said: “We have already had some fantastic entries, our residents certainly have a lot of hidden talents and I look forward to seeing some more entries!”
Entries can be sent electronically to office@havebury.com or on a CD to The Havebury Housing Partnership, FREEPOST ANG20802, Bury St Edmunds, IP33 3ZP. The closing date is Friday, August 26, 2011.
