Tigers will create fun Sundays for people with disabilities
Tuesday, 22nd March 2011.
A new Sunday club for people with physical and learning disabilities has opened at Haverhill Leisure Centre.
The West Suffolk Tigers Family Multisport Club will take place every Sunday at the centre from 3pm to 4.30pm.
The club aims to introduce people of all ages with physical and learning disabilities to a variety of sporting activities under the guidance of qualified instructors. Sports will differ each week including wheelchair basketball, table tennis, swimming, archery, and multisport.
The new club, which costs £1 per session, is being run by Abbeycroft Leisure in conjunction with partners Activities Unlimited, Suffolk Sport, South West Suffolk School Sports Partnership and Optua.
Abbeycroft’s sports development officer Michelle Banfield-Curran said: “We want to run fun family events for those who have a disability and their friends and family, encouraging everyone to be active.
“We are committed to delivering opportunities for children and adults with disabilities or additional needs. We cater for the needs of disabled people and have dedicated parking and changing facilities at Haverhill Leisure Centre.”
The club is aimed at families but anyone with a physical and learning disability can attend on their own and support for them will be available. To discuss your specific needs please contact Michelle Banfield-Curran on 07983 641196 or email mbc@acleisure.com.
