Three die in horror smash

THREE teenagers died and two people were seriously hurt when two cars crashed head-on.
The accident, on the A1092 at Cavendish, Suffolk, involved a Vauxhall Vectra and a Ford Escort.
The Escort driver, Alex Pantling, 17, of Stansfield, in Suffolk, was killed along with two of his passengers, Daryl Cutts, 17, and Giles Cottam, 18, both of Clare.
A third passenger, Robert Beer, 17, also of Clare, suffered serious leg injuries and was taken to West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds.
The driver of the Vectra, Robert Ames, 51, of Long Melford, Suffolk, was also taken to the hospital after the accident with head and chest injuries and two broken ankles.
Police, fire and ambulance services were called to the scene, as well as emergency doctors.
The road was closed for four-and-a-half hours.
The families of the three teenagers expressed their thanks for the support they received from the local community.
Baptist minister Paul Greenin said all churches in Clare changed their Sunday morning services to say special prayers.
He said: "Everyone has been very shocked but very supportive.
"I have spoken to all the families, and on their behalf I would like to thank the community for its support.
"The families have been very moved and are very grateful for everyone's support and the tokens of love they have received."
Police officers are appealing for witnesses to the crash which happened at about 9.25pm on Friday. Anyone with information should call (01284) 774153.
