Third deal for Haverhill Business Park

Monday, 10th May 2004.

Carisbrooke, the developer of the Haverhill Business Park is celebrating after signing its third deal in less than a year.

Terence Barker Ltd, a company specialising in the manufacture of fuel storage tanks, will acquire a 25,700 sq ft (2,388 sq m) headquarters building on a freehold design and build basis.

This deal follows hard on the heels of the deal with Percy Dalton's Famous Peanut Company for its purpose-built manufacturing headquarters at the site. Last year also saw a franchise agreement with premium economy hotel chain, Days Inn, for a 76-bed hotel.

Terence Barker is relocating from its headquarters in Braintree, to the larger facilities in Haverhill to allow for expansion and more effective operations.

The development will be split into two phases: Phase 1, a single storey industrial building of approximately 22,150 sq ft (2,058 sq m) will comprise the manufacturing of fuels storage tanks, a paint shop and office areas. External facilities will include storage areas and car parking.

Phase 2 will include an additional single storey industrial building of approximately 3,550 sq ft (330 sq m) attached to the phase 1 building and will be used for the manufacture of the Convault tank. The Convault tank is an above ground fuel storage tank suitable for the safe storage of petrol. Terence Barker Ltd is the only UK licensed manufacturer.

Terence Barker, director at Terence Barker Ltd, said, “We are all looking forward to relocating to Haverhill and expect that the site will become very attractive once completed. Our move to Haverhill will enable us to increase both production and our product range, allowing us to work far more effectively. We hope to be in our new home by spring 2005.”

Carisbrooke’s development director Paul Bird commented: “We are pleased that Terence Barker is relocating to Haverhill. The town will now see more activity on the business park, and we anticipate that further deals will be signed in 2004, which we hope will demonstrate our commitment to making Haverhill Business Park a success and a number one location for other businesses.”

Haverhill Business Park has the potential for 1m sq ft (92,902 sq m) of mixed-use development including industrial warehousing, offices and research and development.

The park's location, on the Suffolk and Essex boundary, is attracting strong interest from occupiers in most of the surrounding commercial centres including Braintree, Chelmsford and Cambridge as well as some companies looking to relocate out of London.
