Thieves hard at work across the town
Wednesday, 20th July 2011.
Summer months are seeing an increase in thefts of all kinds in Haverhill, with police issuing warnings about securing buildings, preventing lead thefts and not leaving valuable items in vehicles.
Lead thieves struck again in Hollands Road between 6pm on Monday and 9am yesterday. Lead worth around £3,000 was stolen from the roofs of six industrial units.
This comes hot on the hee4ls of £1,500 worth of lead being stolen from Herberts in Rookwood Way and smaller amounts from two Hollands Road premises.
Police have asked businesses to make sure they do not leave easy access to roofs such as parked vehicles or wheelie bins.
Police have also again asked motorists to remove their satnavs from their cars when they leave them as there has been an increase in thefts by people breaking into vehicles.
PC Richard Oldroyd of Haverhill Safer Neighbourhood Team said there had been a 'definite trend' of car windows being smashed late at night and the satnav being grabbed.
The incidents are happening all opver the town with no particuloar pattern to them, and other items such as car radios are also being taken.
Police recently urged householders to make sure they kept their property safe by locking sheds, garages and outbuildings, and not leaving things like bicycles lying around in gardens.
A garage in Shannon Closewas broken into between 3am and 3.30am on nFriday, and three Diawa Bassia fishing reels and three Freesport HI carp fishing rods taken, along with a bag of bait from the fridge.
In Duddery Road between 5pm last Wednesday and 5pm the next day a Peugeot Trekker motor-cycle was stolen from outside a house.
Between 4am and 7am on Friday 50 bottles of milk were stolen from Burton End Primary School and between 10am the same day and 8.30pm the next day a shed in Squires Court was broken into and an Apollo woman's mountain bike, power tools and solar lights stolen.
Sometime between Friday and Sunday a garage in Burton End was broken into and a Zaska silver man's mountain bike stolen.
Police are keen to hear from anyone who can help with their investigations, either if they have seen or heard anything suspicious or if they have been offered suspicious property for sale.
