Thief used pillow case to carry stolen items
Tuesday, 5th November 2013.
Police are warning people to make sure their garden gates and side gates are secure after a burglary in Recreation Road where a burglar used a pillow case to carry of the haul.
Some time between October 30 and November 3, someone got round through an unlocked side gate and jemmied the kitchen window, stealing games consoles and jewellery.
An Aspire Notebook, and iPad, DS Blue and DS Black games consoles, an Arsenal money box containing £50 and gold jewellery worth around £100 were all packed into a pillow case by the thief to carry away.
Insp Peter Ferrie, Haverhill's police chief, said this was a very distinctive element of the crime, which they would look out for in future.
Police have been carrying out more patrols in the Recreation Road area and Insp Ferrie urged people to lock their side gates.
He also said it was important to leave lights on if you go out now the dark evenings were drawing in.
"At 5pm if a house is in darkness burglars know there's no one in," he said.
