The big Christmas event (and fireworks) is two weeks away
Thursday, 25th November 2010.
The Family Christmas Night and Fireworks Display, one of the most popular events in the Haverhill calendar, takes place on Friday, December 10.
From 5.30pm to 8pm the town centre will be buzzing with fairground rides and street entertainment including Elfish Pressie and the Christmas Crackers, a Big Bad Wolf that just luurves Christmas, a trio of boogying grannies out doing their Christmas shopping - with some very large trolleys - and two Wise Men who are looking to boost their numbers in Haverhill.
The Arts Centre will host a craft fair, the majority of the town centre shops will be open for late night shopping and there will be a range of charity and market stalls.
The evening ends with a bang with a stunning fireworks display set to music. The Haverhill skyline will light up from 8.15pm and watchers should gather on the Recreation Ground for this free event.
On Saturday, December 11, the Christmas Craft Fair will be open from 9.30am to 4pm and in the evening the folk singer and fiddle player Bella Hardy performs in St Mary’s parish church as part of her Bright Morning Star tour.
Her set will include folk carols and a host of traditional Christmas songs. With her beautiful voice, her skill on the fiddle and with the help of accomplished musicians Anna Massle and Chris Sherburn it is a festive treat not to be missed.
The performance starts at 8pm, and tickets are £10 and available from Haverhill Arts Centre box office.
On Sunday, December 12, the fun continues with a mini ski slope in the market square, where you can try out ski-ing, snowboarding, or sliding your way to the bottom. The ski slope is free and suitable for all the family, especially the kids.
Christmas isn’t Christmas without hearing a brass band and so, on Sunday afternoon, Haverhill Silver Band and Haverhill Youth & Community Band are holding a fun Family Christmas Concert at the Arts Centre at 4pm. Tickets are £5, and £3 for under 16s - call the box office to book on 01440 714140.
