Ten days left to apply for school places
Thursday, 22nd October 2009.
The deadline for applications for upper school and high school places in Suffolk is fast approaching with the closing date for all applications, whether online or by post being Monday, November 2.
Councillor Graham Newman, Suffolk County Council's portfolio holder for children, schools and young people, said: “Parents should be aware that, because of a change in the law, Suffolk County Council is not able to guarantee a place in your catchment area school and you are therefore recommended to include more than one school on your application form.”
Due to the planned postal strikes parents/carers are encouraged either to apply online, get proof of postage or hand the form in at one of the council offices listed on the back of the application form.
If there is demand for more places at a school than are available, then who gets a place will be decided according to agreed oversubscription criteria. Visit www.suffolk.gov.uk/admissionstoschools for more details about the criteria.
Places will be given first to those who applied by the closing date. Parents and carers will be sent an offer of a school place on Monday, March 1, 2010.
If parents/carers do not fill in a form, or do not apply by the closing date, the area office will decide where to offer a place, based on which schools have spaces.
For more information on the applications process you can call 0845 600 0981 or speak to a school preference adviser on 01473 264698/9.
