Teddy in bid to raise funds
Tuesday, 26th October 2004.
TINY Lauren Holden met a teddy twice her size, when he arrived at a flower shop to pose a question to customers and help raise cash for next month's Children in Need competition.
Ten-month-old Lauren was one of the first to see the bear when he arrived at the Flowers and Balloons shop in Queen Street, Haverhill, as part of its efforts for the BBC Appeal.
Staff are going ahead with fundraising plans, despite their disappointment a collection box for the Purple Dreams charity, which arranges trips for poorly children, has been stolen.
Manageress Mandy Williams has donated the giant bear, worth about £100, and a competition will be held in the shop between now and Children in Need day on November 19 to guess his birthday.
A charge of 50p a guess will be made for the appeal and the person who is nearest the right date will win the teddy.
"We could not believe someone had taken the collection box, but we wanted to do something for Children in Need anyway," Mandy said.
