Summer of hope for silver girl Thake
Thursday, 17th February 2000.
ATHLETE Jemma Thake is looking forward to a successful summer after coming home with a silver medal from the AAA National Indoor Championships at Birmingham.
Thake, 14, of Highfield, Clare, is a member of the West Suffolk Athletic Club and a pupil of Samuel Ward Upper School.
She is coached by Ray Wells, of Lakenheath School, and has been putting in some impressive cross country performances this season.
She won her silver medal in the under-15 girls 200 metre sprint with a time of 25.83, with only herself and the winner under 26 seconds.
It was a West Suffolk Club record and she also recorded a personal best time in the 60 metre semi final.
If Thake can maintain her times, which are far better than her previous best outdoors, she should easily qualify for a place in the Suffolk team for Suffolk Schools events this summer.
The Birmingham indoor event saw Thake up against 50 girls from all over Great Britain who entered after achieving a qualifying standard.
