Suffolk people tell their stories
Thursday, 22nd October 2009.
Throughout October residents across Suffolk are celebrating their heritage and experiences of community life as part of the county’s Festival of Learning programme.
A £50,000 learning grant, secured by Suffolk County Council, has given all residents the chance to record their personal stories for a county-wide public exhibition to go on display later this year.
The My Suffolk Story exhibition is organised by the Learning Festival partners who include Suffolk County Council, the Forum for Refugees, Asylum Seekers & Migrants and Suffolk Family Carers.
The Festival programme is aimed at promoting and widening access for all Suffolk residents to opportunities for learning in a range of settings, including records offices, museums and libraries. New and existing communities across the county are being encouraged to tell their stories about Suffolk life.
All these opportunities have come as a result of a £50,000 grant from the Museums Libraries and Archives Council (MLA). Suffolk’s libraries and record offices are co-ordinating the festival and the mobile library service will be out and about promoting the learning opportunities available to residents.
Every resident can take part in the My Suffolk Story and tell their local stories and hopes for the future, no matter how long they have been here.
Suffolk County Council Libraries team can receive the photographs, video clips and stories at kate.byford@suffolk.gov.uk or on 01473 264162. There is also a festival blog. For further information on the Learning Festival visit www.suffolk.gov.uk/learningfestival
