Students pick up awards at Central Hall, Westminster
Wednesday, 1st October 2014.
Students from Castle Manor Academy made their way to an awards ceremony in Westminster this week.
Vanessa Whitcombe, partnership director: teaching and learning, accompanied the three students and their parents to the event.
The three students, Emma Ellis, Nat Ridgway and Greg Bush, received awards as a result of their outstanding success in the summer examinations this year.
The ceremony, hosted by The PiXL Club at Central Hall in Westminster, was attended by over 600 schools from across the country. Each school nominated students worthy of the award.
The event included performances from students across the country and a large choir who were coached by the London Community Gospel Choir.
Guest speaker was Paralympic Gold Medal winner Hannah Cockroft, who awarded prizes to each student. She gave an inspirational speech telling all the young people not to just have dreams, but to continue to work hard in order to achieve those dreams.
Mrs Whitcombe was full of praise for the event and the students' hard work. “It was a very special occasion," she said, "and I was incredibly proud to be there with the students, who represented all of our Class of 2014.”
