Students aim to be the best at being bad
Friday, 27th June 2014.
Following on from hugely successful shows such as Oliver! and Our House: The Madness Musical, Castle Manor Academy students are now taking on the popular kids show Bugsy Malone.
Based on Alan Parker’s fantastic film, Fat Sam owner of the liveliest joint in town, fights to stop his business rival Dandy Dan from closing his speakeasy down.
Enter baby-faced Bugsy Malone, a killer with the ladies and a definite asset to Fat Sam.
Unfortunately, Bugsy has also caught the eye of Sam’s girlfriend Tallulah – though he’s set his designs on the showgirl Blousey Brown. Throw in some Charlestons, some ragtime and whole lot of splurge to make one of Castle Manor Academy’s most rip-roaring shows!
Year 10 student Kane Robson takes on the lead role of Bugsy, Abbie Brown (year 13) is wannabe star Blousey, and Charlotte Allin (year 13) plays the feisty diva and star of Fat’s Sam’s speakeasy, Tallulah.
Year 11 students Charlie Moody and Will Bailey complete the line up as Fat Sam and Dandy Dan respectively along with a stellar cast of showgirls, gangs, hoodlems and down-and-outs, formed from students across Castle Manor Academy and Place Farm Primary Academy.
Musical direction is provided by Karen Sanderson, choreography by Liz Nyberg and direction by Paul Gardiner. The performances are on Wednesday and Thursday July 16 and 17, 7.30pm at Castle Manor Academy.
Tickets are available by calling the academy on 01440 705 501, £5 full price, £4 concessions. In addition, the show will also run at the Haverhill Arts Centre on Monday and Tuesday, July21 and 22.
Tickets are available by contacting the Haverhill Arts Centre Box office on 01440 714140 or via their website at http://www.haverhillartscentre.co.uk.
