Striking out to raise cash for the Children in Need appeal
Thursday, 22nd November 2001.
SOME strange looking characters were bowling until they dropped in a 12-hour fancy dress marathon for the Children in Need appeal at Haverhill Snooker and Bowl on Friday.
Jamie Pawley, son of manager Hazel, organised the team of 18 people who played in relays non stop from 10 am on the Friday morning.
Mr Pawley said they hoped to raise between £600 and £700. “It was absolutely wonderful although it nearly killed us all. After about five or six hours, you fell like your arms are dropping off. But it went well and we can’t wait to do it again next year.”
There was also a competition to guess the number of strikes scored during the marathon to boost funds for the appeal. Elsewhere, Ipswich Building Society in the High Street offered children the chance to decorate cakes and held a £1 in a bucket draw for a limited edition Pudsey Bear. Schools also joined in the fun with an obstacle course race at Castle Hill Middle and a special Children in Need cat walk at Samuel Ward Upper School.
At St Felix School, staff and pupils raised cash for the appeal by going to school in their pyjamas.
