Steve takes on a new role as a PCSO
Monday, 20th May 2013.
A new PCSO started with Haverhill police today and brought the station up to its full complement of five, working alongside its four PCs.
And he's no stranger to many Haverhill residents, particularly if they shop in Tesco or attend musical shows.
Steve Ridpath, who lives in Haverhill, is 21 and has already directed two pantomimes for Centre Stage Company, as well as appearing in musicals such as Oklahoma!, in which he played Ali Hakim, Bugsy Malone and All Shook Up.
He took on a very different role, as a special constable, while he worked at Tesco, because his ambition has always been to become a police officer.
Now he has completed nine weeks training in Ipswich to become a PCSO and starts on the beat, being monitored for his first few weeks by PCSO Lorna Chapman.
Then he will share responsibility for the Chalkstone area with PCSO Mark Isaacs, who is currently based at Samuel ward Academy.
