Stars shine despite the weather
Saturday, 19th December 2009.
The snow did not manage to prevent a Haverhill school's annual talent show from taking place yesterday (Friday), although it forced a few last-minute changes.
Samuel Ward College of Arts and Technology holds a Stars In Their Eyes show each year, and this year there were 22 acts going for the nine awards up for grabs.
Normally there are two shows during the day to allow everyone to see the acts, but with snow disruption hitting school bus services and many students and staff not making it into school, a packed hall was able to see it all in one go.
Best vocal act with live accompaniment went to Tom Bailey with Adele's Make You Feel My Love, and best vocal act with a backing track to Brenton Matheus, who had created his own backing track to his own composition What About Me.
Best junior female singer was Geena Strowger who, with Charlotte Jeffrey, performed Taylor Swift's You Belong To Me, and best senior female singer Tori O'Donnell with Katy Perry's Electric Feel.
She was accompanied by Tony Trott, who won best instrumentalist.
There was no doubt about the award for the most entertaining act, which went to Precious Nnadi for a supercool version of Jason Derulu's Watcha Say.
Best male singer went to James Turner for his Michael Buble in Everything, while best newcomer was Chloe Groom with Pixie Lott's Use Somebody.
The best band went to a version of the JCB Song performed by Taylor Richardson, Tom Bailey, Ben Simmons, Jacob Willmore and William Wallis.
