Staffiing crisis hits station
Thursday, 18th April 2002.
Haverhill police station has had to be closed at times in recent weeks because no civilian clerk was available to man the front desk.
Sgt Dave Lockyear told members of the Haverhill Partnership Group that the station had been open for reduced hours over the past eight weeks.
The situation had arisen because only one clerk was available, when previously there had been three.
Another clerk had been appointed and the situation had improved slightly Sgt Lockyear said.
However he pointed out that the station was always manned even if it was not open to the public.
