Stabbed Youth 'Was Murdered'

Thursday, 4th January 2001.

A TEENAGER was knifed to death by the husband of a woman he had verbally abused, a jury was told.
Henry Solt, 17, collapsed and died after he was stabbed through the chest on Haverhill's Clements estate.
Daniel Fernandez, 34, of Snowden Court, Haverhill, denies a charge of murder.
Michael Lawson QC, prosecuting at Chelmsford Crown Court, said Tracey Fernandez had been walking with a friend through the Clements estate on June 2 last year.
They passed a group of teenage boys and girls, aged between 15 and 17.
For some reason the group were rude to the two women and teased them, the court was told.
Mrs Fernandez said to one of them to "grow up" but was told: "Grow up yourself, little girl."
Mrs Fernandez was also told she had a "fat arse".
She went home and minutes later returned with her husband, who had left the house with a large knife tucked under his clothing, it was alleged.
Mrs Fernandez, who was holding a small child, told the youths: "Now say what you said with my husband here."
Henry Solt repeated what he had said, and Mrs Fernandez lost her cool and slapped his face, the court heard.
Her husband punched the teenager and a scuffle started. As Fernandez was on the ground he was kicked and punched by two or three other youths.
Fernandez was seen to be fiddling with his jacket as he got to his feet, the court heard, and someone shouted: "Look out. He's got a knife."
Mr Lawson, prosecuting, said Fernandez lunged at Henry Solt with the knife, and it went straight into his chest and pierced his heart. He collapsed and died within minutes.
Fernandez went off with his wife and persuaded his sister-in-law to dispose of the knife, the court heard.
It was later recovered from the grounds of a school where it had been dumped, the jury was told.
Fernandez later told police the stabbing was "an unfortunate accident" while he was acting in fear of his own safety, it was alleged.
Mr Lawson said it was the Crown's case that Fernandez had "deliberately lunged at Henry with the knife, intending to cause serious bodily harm".
The trial continues.
