St Edmundsbury compost giveaway - in Clare
Tuesday, 27th April 2010.
Keen gardeners can pick up some free compost at the weekend from the council - but you've got to go to Clare to get it.
Compost giveaways are being organised across Suffolk on Saturday, May 1 as part of Compost Awareness Week.
St Edmundsbury Borough Council will be doing theirs from 9am to 2 pm in the visitors' car park at Clare Country Park.
Compost Awareness Week is a national campaign which aims to encourage more people to recognise the benefits of compost.
Free compost will be available as a thank you to Suffolk residents who have used local authority green waste services, contributing to the 46.53% recycling/composting rate.
Compost which has kindly been provided by County Mulch Ltd will be available on a first-come, first-served basis while stocks last. You will need to bring your own bags, as bags will not be provided on the day, and a shovel if possible.
John Jardine of County Mulch said: “We have found that Suffolk residents are excellent at sorting their organic waste for composting, which allows us to produce a high grade soil improver, which improves the structure of the soil and helps retain moisture.”
