St Edmundsbury among the top fraud-beaters
Tuesday, 15th October 2013.
St Edmundsbury is part of a partnership which has won an award for excellence in beating fraud.
Anglia Revenues Partnership is delighted to have been announced as a winner in the prestigious Institute of Revenues, Rating and Valuation (IRRV) Performance awards.
The partnership, which is made up of, Breckland Council, Forest Heath District Council, East Cambridgeshire District Council and St Edmundsbury Borough Council, won gold in the Excellence in Anti-Fraud Award.
The awards panel looked for organisations who could demonstrate they have excelled in the area of anti-fraud. Inspections carried out in August and presented to the awards panel recognised the fraud team’s innovative ways of working.
The team covers a rural area in excess of 1,155 square miles, which includes nine towns, one city and serves a population of approximately 386,600, and says its success is down to making the best use of resources, having highly trained and skilled officers and utilising new technology to identify fraud.
The winners in each category were announced and trophies presented during the IRRV Annual Conference on Thursday, October 3, at Telford International Centre, hosted by comedian Dave Spikey.
Cllr Dave Ray, St Edmundsbury cabinet member for resources and performance said: “Public money lost to fraud is money that is supposed to be spent for the public good, and it is a major part of organised crime today.
"Successfully spotting and investigating fraud needs a high degree of awareness, skill and cooperation between agencies. I am very pleased that the commitment of police, councils and all our partners in working together has helped gain this well deserved award”.
