Special event for families with disabled children

Families with disabled children are invited to a very special February half-term event next week at Haverhill Leisure Centre.
The Activities Unlimited Family Fun Day takes place on February 19 from 10am to 3pm and costs just £1 per person which includes a buffet lunch.
The event is an opportunity for families who have children with additional needs, to try new and exciting leisure activities and find out what other services are available in the local area.
There will be music workshops, karaoke, ITFC multi-sports, arts and crafts, face painting and much more.
Local disability organisations will also be attending with information stands and representatives will be available to answer questions and help families.
Activities Unlimited (AU) is a ground-breaking service developed through Suffolk County Council’s Aiming High For Disabled Children’s short break pathfinder programme.
On the day the AU team will be there throughout to raise awareness of Activities Unlimited, support families to find suitable and fun short break opportunities and enrol with the service.
They will also be able to offer advice on individual budgets or other funding which may be available to enable disabled children to access leisure opportunities.
The recent launch of the website www.activities-unlimited.co.uk was pivotal to the project - it is a travel agency style website packed with a wide range of activities which families can book online. Families who wish to benefit should complete the AU membership page on the site.
The benefits of joining include a welcome pack, membership card, magazine and regular updates about special offers, news events and holiday opportunities.
Kevin Filby, Activities Unlimited Project Manager for Scope said, “The Activities Unlimited team have been working hard over the past few months in the Haverhill area to find out what leisure opportunities are available and how we can support providers to enable disabled children and young people to access them.
