Spate of 'creeper' burglaries continues

Monday, 12th August 2013.

A series of walk-in burglaries overnight has continued in Haverhill over the past few days and police are repeating their advice to residents to keep windows and doors closed despite the recent warm weather.

Since the start of July there have been 11 burglaries of people's homes in Haverhill,of which eight have been of the overnight, walk-in kind, now being dubbed 'creeper' burglaries by police.

The burglar finds a door or window insecure, goes in while the residents are in the house and walks around looking for things to steal.

Most recently a home in Pentlow Hawke Close was targeted on Thursday and £50 cash, bank cards and some gold chains were taken.

Another connecting factor about many of the burglaries has been that they lie quite close to the railway walk which polioce think the burglar is using as an access route.

A 17-year-old youth has been arrested and bailed in connection with one 'creeper' burglary, in Trefoil Court, where the intruder got in through an insecure back door.

A condition of the bail was that the youth wear an electronic tag and remain at home during the hours of darkness, but the burglaries have continued.
