Soccer girl's England call
Thursday, 31st May 2001.
A HAVERHILL girl has two trials for an England women's football team, if she can fit them into her schedule.
Sian Randall, 14, plays football for Samuel Ward Upper School's Under-14 and Under-19 sides.
She also captains Colchester United's School of Excellence team and plays for Cambridge United's Under-14 side.
Sian, of Golding's Close, Haverhill, said: "I get my trial dates soon and I'm a bit nervous.
"It's my first trial for England and it is sure to be really hard.
"I train Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings and play Saturday and Sunday. I only get a social life Monday and Friday."
She has been called to London for two England trials in June and August.
To add to her success, Sian was also spotted by Arsenal scouts while she was playing for the Colchester United School side.
Sian's PE teacher at Samuel Ward Upper School is Neil Mitchell.
He said: "Sian has got a lot of talent. She plays football for us in an age group above her own and she is a good all-round sportswoman."
When Sian finishes school, she wants to stay in football but her dream is to be in a warmer climate.
Sian said: "I want to go to America to play football for a school or college. Women's football is bigger than men's over there. It's massive.
"You have to send them a video recording of you playing. If you are good enough, they come over and watch you.
"I want to go to California."
