Shoplifters in action in run-up to Christmas
Thursday, 20th December 2012.
Christmas time is bringing out the shoplifters in Haverhill, councillors were told by police at their meeting on Tuesday.
PC Simon Bourne of Haverhill Safer Neighbourhood Team said they were experiencing a lot of thefts from shops, particularly Tesco, where meat and alcohol were the main targets.
On Monday there was a ‘trolley dash’, where thieves escaped with a full trolley, despite the efforts of security guards.
PC Bourne said they had been given a lead on who was responsible, but it might be difficult to prove.
Police had however nabbed a thief who made off with the tip box from the Smart Fish Bar in Queen Street on Monday evening, containing £300.
They happened to be on patrol in the area caught the man and retrieved the cash.
