Sex attack never actually happened, say police
Friday, 9th August 2013.
Police have established that a sexual assault for which they appealed for witnesses yesterday never actually took place.
A woman had contacted police on Wednesday to report that she was attacked by an unknown man in an alleyway near to Horsham Close at around 6.05pm on Tuesday.
An area of Horsham Close was cordoned off as an investigation into the incident began.
But today, Haverhill's police chief, Insp Peter Ferrie, confirmed they were satisfied no assault took place.
Police are still talking to the woman to ascertain the circumstances which led to the report being made in the first place.
Insp Ferrie said: "Sexual assaults of the kind which had been reported are extremely rare here and I'm delighted further investigation has revealed this to be a false report."
