Self Defense Classes back by Demand
Wednesday, 16th April 2003.
SELF DEFENCE classes for women at Haverhill have proved so popular that more are being organised for next month.
Three groups of 10 women have just finished their free courses at the Burton Centre in Camps Road. Demand for places was so great that organisers had to bring in more staff to man the crèche.
On Friday night the women went along to an end of course celebration with their partners and instructor Paul Last said their confidence had grown so much that they put on an impromptu demonstration.
He said: "It is all about confidence-building and giving people the confidence to go out and feel safe.
"We do simple protection and escape techniques, but we also teach the law and what you are allowed to do, the psychology and what makes people attack."
