Schools busy week
By Martin Chapman on Thursday, 8th March 2001.
IT HAS been a busy week as both students and staff have flung themselves in to the next half term.
It all started last Tuesday with half of Year 9 visiting the Natural History and Science museums in London, while the other half visited Duxford. The trip was enjoyed by all those who took park, and was a valuable learning experience.
Year 11 have taken part in an Aids Awareness day which included information about sexually transmitted infections, drugs and general sex education.
Year 10 took part in mock interviews as part of the on-going careers education provided in the school.
Tonight (Thursday) also sees the last performance of this year’s highly successful school production, Terry Pratchetts, Wyrd Sisters.
A reminder to all parents of Year 9 that a parents evening is being on March 15. It provides the perfect opportunity for parents, students and teachers to talk about performance over the year and the options for GCSEs.
This week saw our under 19 girls’ football side play in a five-a-side competition held at Hills Road Sixth Form College. The tournament was among colleges, schools and sixth form colleges around East Anglia.
Hills Road 1st team were our first opponents and Sian RandalL Kant Hammond sod Neeley Spicer ensured we drew 3-3. Meridian School were next and despite an opener from Sian, Meridian went on to win 2-1.
In the semi-final against Hills Road Reserves, two cracking strikes from goalkeeper turned forward Caroline Merch-Chammon ensured a 2-0 victory and a place in the final against Braintree.
This was a very close game, even though the girls only had a five-minute break from their semi-final. Despite goals from Caroline and Neeley, Draiotree hung on to win 3-2.
Well done to the squad of Neeley Spicer, Karli Hammond, Jenny Cotta, Caroline Merch-Chammon and especially younger players Kirsty Moore (Year Ill and Sian Randall Wear 9).
Congratulations to the Year 9 basketball squad who defeated Sudbury 30-Ill. Performances included ten points from Lewie Ileoaby and six from Richard Gilbey.
Our Year 10 side also played Sudbury, but despite a second half rally lost 32-20. Elliot Abbott capped a good overall game with eight points as well as an eight point haul from Steven Jackson.
