Schoolchildren to help hotel design its Christmas card
Monday, 29th September 2014.
It may still be 12 weeks away but Christmas is certainly high on the agenda for Days Inn Haverhill.
In the past the hotel have designed their own Christmas cards however this year they decided to enlist the help of local primary school children in years five and six.
The children have been asked to take part in a Design A Christmas Card competition. Their brief is to draw a picture that encapsulates what Christmas means to them.
The winning design will be used to produce a printed Christmas card which will then be sent to the hotel’s contacts.
The judging panel will comprise Donna Revell, general manager of the hotel; Helen Chaplin, site manager of Haverhill Research Park and local artist, photographer and children’s author Jon Adkin.
The child who creates the winning design will be invited to host a party for their classmates in the function room at the hotel in December and their school will be given a supply of the Christmas cards.
Donna said: “We like to work with all sectors of the local community and to get involved with what’s happening in the town.
"When we were brainstorming for this year’s Christmas campaign we came up with the idea of running a competition to design our Christmas card.
"Every year we have a card printed and thought it would be great to involve the local schools. Christmas means different things to different people and it will be interesting to see what it means for our young people. The winning design will be announced in November.”
Days Inn have decided to organise their own Christmas function after many years of hosting successful business events and private functions for corporate clients and members of the public.
The event will take place on Thursday, December 11, from 7.30pm until 11.30pm in the Kingfisher Lounge and Bar. Full details are currently being finalised and will be announced in the next two weeks.
Donna said: “Companies often struggle to know how to celebrate Christmas with staff or customers and suppliers.
"We thought it would be helpful to host an event where local companies can book a table from two people to 12, depending on how big they are. It gives smaller companies an opportunity to celebrate Christmas in a party atmosphere even if there are just a couple of them!
"They can also share a table with other small companies if required. We would like to use the event to support a local charity and will be asking those attending to donate an item of seasonal food for the Haverhill Food Bank.”
The hotel is also offering an Early Bird special offer for people who book their Christmas stay by October 31.
Guests who book to stay three consecutive nights in a twin, double room or family room, for two adults and a child, between Friday, December 19, and Monday, January 5, can save £85 on the standard double occupancy rate. They will pay £170 instead of the usual £255 and a single room for three nights will be £150, a saving of £75.
