School wins top award

Thursday, 15th June 2000.

TWO pupils and two staff members from Clare Middle School have been to the Barbican Centre in London to receive a prestigious national award.
Headteacher Nigel Evans, and senior teacher Val Saberton, were accompanied by pupils Sarah Bevan and Sam Shipley when they received the award, presented in front of several thousand people.
The award was in recognition of the school’s contribution to the theme of “The School as the Heart of the Community.”
Clare was one of 271 schools around the UK to receive awards, and tributes were paid at the ceremony to the schools and their communities.
Mrs Saberton organised the Clare project, involving pupils finding out more about their local community and inviting people to the school to see the work produced.
She said: “Clare Middle School would like to share this celebration with the community stretching from Wickhambrook to Hartest and thank everyone who has contributed to the presentation of the award.
“It is a great honour for the school and the whole community.”
