School says Pants to Poverty

By Martin Chapman on Thursday, 15th March 2001.

AS a result of the continuing foot and mouth crisis, which has caused the countryside to grind to a halt, a planned biology trip to the Babraham Institute has been postponed.

Year 11 took part in Aids Awareness day, where visitors from the health department came to talk to students.

Year 12 have been participating in the annual Challenge Of Management conference this week They are spending three days following company managers across the county They are finding out the difficulties of being a manager and how managers manage time, resources and people.

On Friday pupils will present their findings in groups. Miss Carter who has organized the conference would like to express her thanks to all those companies who have allowed students to follow their staff. Other students in Year 12 are out on work experience relevant to the courses they are taking.

Tomorrow the school will be saying Pants To Poverty and raising money for Comic Relief. This year alt the teachers are dressing up as clowns, and at lunchtime a special edition of the legendary Weakest Link will be held, but the question is who will fill the shoes of the Queen herself, Anne Robinson.

Plans are afoot for a special geography trip, to take place in the October half term. Miss l-Harrington and Miss Cooling, the school’s two geography teachers, are organising an eight day trip to Kenya for students from next years ten to 13. The trip promises to be a once In a lifetime experience.

And finally... this has been a sad week which is mixed with joy, as three teachers are leaving at Easter, after gaining promotion to other schools in the region. Mrs Daniels, who has been in the school for ten years, is joining Sawston Vi1-lage College as assistant head. Mr Northeast, who has been with the school two and a half years, is leaving to take up a post in the forces and Dr Lucas who has been with the school for nearly two years is leaving to become head of science at Newmarket Upper School.

Both students and staff alike will miss all three teachers and we wish them all the best of luck in their new schools.
